Here is a list of the most commonly asked questions. If you need additional information we’re glad to answer that too!
Is BJJ good for kids?
Absolutely! The classes are taught in a positive, fun, and friendly environment, so your child will enjoy learning the art Jiu-Jitsu, which means “gentle art”. Kids do not have to rely on size, strength, or speed, while also learning to defend themselves and subdue their opponent in a safe way without having to rely on kicks and punches. Your child will develop physical awareness of balance, reflexes, flexibility and coordination, as well as build on the mental aspects of their personality such as self-esteem, discipline, confidence, compassion, and good work ethic.
I’m not sure if Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu will be right for me. Is there any way I can try a class before signing-up?
Absolutely! We offer a free TWO week trial.
Will I be required to purchase a lot of equipment?
Nope. In BJJ all you need is a uniform, and there are no belt testing fee’s!
I don’t own a uniform (Gi). Do I need to buy one to try out the class?
No. We will lend you one of our uniforms for your trial class.
What do I wear during my first class? Do I need to bring anything?
Please try to arrive 10-15 minutes early so that you can meet the staff and instructor, sign a waiver and get you set up with a loaner gi (uniform) if necessary.
Bring a positive attitude, and a water bottle!
What are classes like?
We begin every class with a good warm up. Following the warm up we go over (drill) a few techniques. Once the team has completed all the drills, we begin to spar (or roll). Rolling is when students get a chance to apply what they have learned with training partners. Rolling is “live” but always done with respect and control. New students are not required to roll until they feel comfortable.
